“Meet the Bees” Session
If you have always wondered what goes on inside a honey bee hive, then this short hands - on session may be of interest!
We will meet at one of the Rivendell Bees apiaries, all located within ten miles of Daventry, where we will have a short briefing session, before putting on bee suits and making our way to the hives.
We will open a couple of hives, where we will see worker bees and drones going about their tasks (we may even catch sight of the elusive queen).
We should see cells containing eggs and larvae, and possibly observe a new worker bee hatching from her birth cell, whilst discussing the honey bee life cycle.
We may also see returning bees doing the famous “waggle dance”.
We will identify pollen and honey in the frames, and see the different pollen colours being brought in by forager bees.
